Always a delight to see the work of art that is the ceiling of the Grand Opera House, Belfast, masterfully painted by artist Cherith McKinstry, wife of Robert McKinstry, the architect responsible for the 1980s restoration of the original Frank Matcham design opened in 1895.
Success through Architecture
Director Jane Larmour was recently invited to be a participant in the 'Success Through Architecture' projected by Alan Jones (Director of Alan Jones Architects and Director of Education at Queen's University Belfast). The project explores the role of the contemporary architect and how those passionate about architecture are inspired by it and help create it.
Jane met with a group of QUB undergraduate students at the Lyric Theatre, a project in which she was involved with in previous practice, to answer questions about her experience to date in the process of becoming and practicing as a registered and chartered architect in both Ireland and the UK in addition to her roles in teaching and research.

Delighted to have taken the title of winners of the Perfectly Proportioned Quiz of Architecture and Other Things, with our team 'Acropolis Now', joined by Deirdre Greaney and Saul Golden. The quiz, which is to be an annual charity fundraiser was in support of the Simon Community tackling homelessness.

Describing Architecture Exhibition
Scandinavia Underfoot
The photographic essay ‘Scandinavia Underfoot’ documented the shared references absorbed during our travels and experiences of exploring and observing architecture on our travels and was first exhibited at the 'Describing Architecture' exhibition at Ormond Quay during Open House Dublin, 2010.
Supported by the Architectural Association of Ireland, The Ormond Building, Dublin City Council, the Irish Architecture Foundation, National College of Art and Design, and The Arts Council, the exhibition included over forty pieces of work by Irish architects including photographs, models, paintings and drawings.

Europan Ireland, Europan 9 | 10 | 11: A Collection of Ideas for Housing in Ireland
Published by the Royal Institute of Architects Ireland (RIAI) this book showcases innovative ideas on housing from architects across Europe for Irish sites proposed in relation to the Pan-European architectural competition 'Europan' in which we were awarded second-place in 2011.
Aimed at architects under 40, the biennial competition is launched simultaneously by several countries on a common theme. Ireland has participated in Europan 9, 10 and 11 with sites in Dublin, Galway, and Cork.
The function of Europan in participating countries is to promote urban studies and experimental projects in the field of housing and to encourage the implementation of such innovative urban processes.

The Art and Architecture of Ireland is a five volume legacy project by the Royal Irish Academy celebrating the visual arts in Ireland.
Edited by Andrew Carpenter, Rolf Loeber, Hugh Campbell, Livia Hurley, John Montague, and Ellen Rowley, Volume IV 'Architecture from C.1600 to C.2000' provides a concise narrative of the last 400 years of Architectural history in Ireland.
Jane Larmour contributed a chapter on 'Bath houses, Spas, Lidos and swimming pools' included in "The Architecture of Recreation and Public Resort".
Volume IV is considered to be,
"The most complete survey of architecture in Ireland ever published. The essays in this volume cover all aspects of Ireland’s built environment, not only buildings but infrastructure, landscape development, public and private construction and much else. The volume challenges and expands the traditional understanding of Irish ‘architecture’, giving novel and exciting interpretations of the field and, by means of many striking illustrations, encourages us to think anew about the environment that surrounds us."
